What’s That Star Open the sky

Privacy

What’s That Star is built to work without knowing who you are. Here’s what it does with your information.

Location and motion

Your location and your phone’s motion readings are used in your browser to draw your sky. They aren’t sent to our server. If you allow precise location, it’s saved in your browser so it’s ready next time; clearing this site’s data in your browser removes it.

Settings

Your settings, like which layers are on, are saved in your browser’s local storage. We don’t set cookies of our own.

Visit counts

We count visits with NeverCookie, a privacy-friendly analytics service that doesn’t use cookies. It records things like the page visited, the referring site, the type of browser and the country, and it doesn’t identify you or follow you to other sites.

Shared links and calendar files

Shared links contain only the name of what’s being shared, like /mars, never your location. Calendar files for satellite passes are made from the pass details in the link and aren’t stored.

Satellite data

Satellite orbits come from CelesTrak and are downloaded by our server, not your phone.
